Daylight Saving! Time

I was informed by a friend that it is not Daylight Savings Time, but Daylight SaVING Time…so I hope to get it correct from now on…I’m watering my lawn because it is such a beautful even green…we’ve had a week of rain…I had my lawn aerated, thatched and fertilized…and I am trying to keep ahead of the water rationing. It looks good, the white candy tuft border is in bloom and the roses are getting their deep green leaves. In the back…the wisteria is starting to bloom, and Mom’s orchid has clusters of flowers. It will still be dark when I leave for work tomorrow. I’ll miss seeing the yard in morning sun. myplaylist.com

Back Again

Well, spring is just about upon us. it has been a long time since I wrote here…November. The winter is passing, now it is out in the yard, birds back, garden work to do, school’s getting busy again, the economy is on the fritz and I am still reading Jared Diamond…only this time it is his other book…Guns, Germs, and Steel…equally as interesting, but equally as slow moving because of all the detail…which of course, I really do like, but just don’t understand.

Denver

Well, I’m back from Denver. It is a beautiful city. We sat on he 15th floor during the conference looking out over the city—skyscrapers, steeples, minarets. The weather was good…it was actually fun to wear a nice warm coat and not the feel the cold on my body. It reminded me of how I survived Minnesota…indeed our clothes were warmer than I wear in CA. Of course, for Denverese, it was hot…I saw a lot of people in shorts and flipflops, no jackets. I lost track of where I was …looked like the CA Whole Foods to me.The best part of the trip was getting to know the six people that I went with. What lovely individuals. We all stayed together on everything…going for coffee, sitting together at the conference, having dinner, shopping. Everyone looked out for one another, and it made all the difference in our dynamics. I was amazed that I left all my usual fears behind….no stomachaches, no panic attacks, no allergy symptoms, no ringing ears. Good to know. I learned to be a better reader with the strategies, and my general educational beliefs were reinforced, and the fact that reflection in a journal is very important. I knew that, but I just don’t do that very often. I am reading a very great book….Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed by Jared Diamond. It is very interesting and I am hoping it will help me make some good decisions in my life.

It is definitely Fall….this is what it looks like: gray skies, clouds a little grayer, a couple of birds flying high…lots of leaves still on the bough, but leaves are beginning to drop. Colors just beginning to change. he wisteria boughs are still very green. I’m thinking how many leaves I’ll be cleaning up out of my pool. We had an extra hour sleep when we “turned” off daylight savings time. I’m very rested today….yesterday I was tired and not that productive. The temperatures are mild, rain… a lot of it yesterday,quite cozy actually. The grass and plants needed it…everything is nice and fresh, green, washed this morning.

Two Hummingbirds

Today there were two hummingbirds drinking out of the feeder at the same time This is a change because for the past 3 years they have been busy chasing each other away. When our mother had her hummingbird feeder at her floor apartment, there were often several birds feeding at once, but at my house, no sharing at all. I wonder why the change…are they the same family? They flew in different directions when they left….I’ll have to watch more. Very fallish, today, by the way…silence…overcast,birds lying in flocks…the feel of the air…the scent of the harvest.

John McCain/Sarah Palin

I look at John McCain and Cindy, and after you have lived the years and experiences that they have had, I realize, because I have lived into my 60′s that perspective, which comes from age and experience, is the ultimate, and nothing can replace that, and McCain and Palin are brave and courageous and realistic! Idealsim…of course, we have all had it, but real life is so much better, in the long run, than we could ever imagine. God Bless them, and God Bless America!

I have admired Sarah Palin for a long time. Somehow I was directed to her through some comment in some commentary. But since I have discovered her, I have followed her for quite a long time and found her to be a true heroine. As Governor of Alaska she is realistic and caring about the state and people. She is strong courageous and loving. Now she has been selected by John McCain as his running mate. He couldn’t have done better. This is the kind of person I want to lead our country…someone who is grounded in family, with real problems that families have. I believe she is capable, global, aggressive and assertive, realistic, and uncompromising. I am impressed with John McCain that he chose her. Maybe he chose her because she’s a woman…but this is the country I want, the leadership I want….McCain/Palin!
